The use of testosterone in women who are pregnant is contraindicated. Withdrawal of the drugs did not lead to regression of the tumors in all cases. Free thyroid hormone levels remain unchanged, however, and there is no clinical evidence of thyroid dysfunction. Androgens may decrease levels of thyroxine-binding globulin, resulting in decreased total T4 serum levels and increased resin uptake of T3 and T4. If any of these effects appear, the androgen should be stopped and if restarted, a lower dosage should be utilized. Androgen therapy should be used cautiously in healthy males with delayed puberty. However, testosterone levels may be in the normal or subnormal range in men abusing synthetic testosterone derivatives.
There isn’t enough information to support the use of this drug for a long period of time in people ages 65 years and older. You may also need to monitor your blood sugar levels closely. Your doctor may lower the dosage of your diabetes drugs. If you have polycythemia, your doctor will order blood tests to determine whether this drug is safe for you to use. You should not use this drug if your red blood cell count is above a certain level. If you have liver disease, testosterone cypionate may also cause salt and water retention.
If these effects are mild, they may go away within a few days or a couple of weeks. Testosterone cypionate can cause mild or serious side effects. However, it may take 3 weeks or more before you start to feel symptoms of your condition ease. Testosterone cypionate works to treat hypogonadism in males by replacing the testosterone the body is unable to make.
A common dosing schedule is every one to two weeks, but the exact interval can vary and your clinician will work with you to determine the best injection schedule. However, these drugs do this via prevention of the conversion of testosterone into its more potent metabolite dihydrotestosterone (DHT), and this results in dramatically reduced circulating levels of DHT (which circulates at much lower relative concentrations). Adverse effects of testosterone supplementation may include increased cardiovascular events (including strokes and heart attacks) and deaths based on three peer-reviewed studies involving men taking testosterone replacement. The changes include removing language from the boxed warning related to an increased risk of adverse cardiovascular outcomes and adding a new warning about increased blood pressure. Some female athletes may have naturally higher levels of testosterone than others, and may be asked to consent to sex verification and either surgery or drugs to decrease testosterone levels. It is provided unmodified and as a testosterone ester such as testosterone cypionate, testosterone enanthate, testosterone propionate, or testosterone undecanoate, which act as prodrugs of testosterone.
